China is a big country of sesame production, which has been planted for more than 2000 years. Sesame is widely distributed in China, and it is planted all over the country. It starts from Hainan Island in the south, Heilongjiang in the north, Taiwan and Shanghai in the East, and Tibet and Xinjiang in the West.
According to the records of Sesame Varieties in China, sesame in China is divided into seven ecological regions
The results showed that 1. The spring sesame production area in Northeast and Northwest China, including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, accounted for 5% – 6% of the total area of sesame in China.
2. Spring sesame production area in North China, which includes Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi and Northern Shaanxi, is basically a one-year spring sesame area, accounting for about 10% of China’s total sesame area.
3. The summer sesame production area of Huang Huai two crops a year. Sesame is mainly distributed in the vast plain area south of Yellow River and north of Huaihe River, including Henan and Anhui provinces and parts of Northern Jiangsu Province. The climate and soil in this region are suitable for planting sesame. It is one of the main sesame producing areas in China, accounting for about 40% of the total sesame area in China.
4. Jianghan double cropping summer sesame area, which includes Nanyang of Henan, Guanzhong of Shaanxi, Weinan and most areas of Hubei except Eastern Hubei. This area includes Jianghan Plain and Nanyang Basin, which is suitable for sesame planting. It is one of the main sesame producing areas in China, accounting for 27% – 28% of the total sesame area in China.
5. Summer sowing and intercropping of sesame seeds in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, which starts from the east of Hubei Province and goes down along the Yangtze River, covering Jiujiang in the north of Jiangxi Province, Anqing and Wuhu in the south of Anhui Province, and reaches the coastal areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in East China, accounting for 6% – 7% of the total area of sesame in China.
6. The planting area of two or three crops in spring, summer and autumn in South and central China, including Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan and other provinces, accounts for about 10% of China’s total planting area. This region includes two regions of central and southern China, and Jiangxi Province is the transition zone from summer sesame with two crops a year to autumn sesame with three crops a year.
7. The southwest plateau is mainly sown in summer, and also sows sesame in spring and autumn. This area is a low latitude plateau, including the marginal mountainous areas of Guizhou, Yunnan, Chongqing and Eastern Sichuan basins, as well as some warm river valleys in Tibet. The planting area of sesame accounts for 2% – 3% of the total area of China. From Baidu zhidao
